Design for Sustainability (DfS), 1 or 2 Day Workshops
Companies measure project feasibility according to metrics such as cost, performance and time while sustainability performance metrics are commonly considered at the end of the process. This means the metric are not used to influence design decisions resulting in sustainability metrics used for determining the 'greenest' design within a product line for marketing purposes. This method does not create inherently sustainable product where 'green’ and ‘sustainable’ are an element of marketing and not design.
Product development teams are in a unique position to proliferate sustainability, through design of more sustainable products. Design for Sustainability (DfS) methodologies such as Life Cycle Thinking can be integrated throughout the product development process. This improves the ecological performance of products, without compromising technical performance, design or product features and capabilities. Perhaps most important to a company, DfS methodologies do not have to impact project cost or schedule.
A Design for Sustainability workshop provides practical skills and tools for product development professionals, to implement sustainability metrics into the design process. The workshop provides participants with design strategies ranging from technical and analytical considerations for making design decisions to collaboration with Life Cycle Assessment professionals to streamline their services within product development.
