"Do Good by Doing Right"

While that notion may be a bit cliche, it is the basis for why I founded Kalepa Tech, LLC in 2008. We live on a planet threatened by global warming with floating landfills of waste scourging our oceans. Among us 2.7 billion people live on less than $2 per day, 1.1 billion people lack access to clean drinking water and millions die every year from preventable or curable diseases such as the malaria. It is my belief that we can do better and it is this notion that the foundation of Kalepa Tech.

I grew up in Colorado, a place of unparalleled beauty. By no means, do I understand what living on $2 per day is about, but among that natural beauty I also learned what 'low income' means to a family of five. Given incredible opportunities throughout my life, I maintained a need to give back to the planet and help provide those not fortunate enough to get the same opportunities. Throughout college and my early career, I worked with inner-city youth and environmental programs. All of these experiences shaped my early perceptions about environment, technology, education and opportunity. While I didn't realize it when I was younger, these experiences taught me that a combination of environmental compassion, technological know-how, applied education and seized opportunities empowered me to turn my passions into Kalepa Tech.

My career started in oilfield technologies, of all places. While it was fun to work in a high-paced and well-financed business environment, I came to the conclusion that I needed to wake up in the morning and feel good about what I was doing. Since leaving oilfield, my career took a circuitous route venturing into various technologies until finding a calling in product and technology development.

While I was given ample leeway to explore my passions for social impact and finding the intersection between technology, environmentalism and international development through volunteer activities, training opportunities and encouragement to pursue business opportunities, I realized these passions shouldn't be a footnote in my career. They should be my career.

In 2008, Kalepa Tech became a reality with the goal of using engineering, sustainability, research and product and technology developer to design quality solutions that have a positive social impact on ecology, society and humanity.

About Us

We are located in the Greater Boston Metro Area. Boston is a hub not only for world class technology development with institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Harvard and University of Boston, but also a thriving entrepreneurial community. I actively connect with and utilize the talents both these communities offer by coordinating with experts and entrepreneurs in the area. When they are needed, I engage collegiate institutions, entrepreneurs, technologist, scientist, industrial designers, human factor specialist, mechanical designers, business development specialists and strategist to offer expertise and a depth of knowledge over a full range of services.

I also evolve and build internal talent by enthusiastically participating in the many opportunities for enrichment and learning offered in the Boston Area. A few of the organizations I participate in are:

  • TiE Boston''s Social Entrepreneurship Special Interest Group
  • Sustainability@MIT
  • MIT Energy Club
  • MIT Enterprise Forum
  • Harvard''s Social Entrepreneurship Collaboratory X (SE Lab X)
  • MIT IDEAS Competition
  • MIT International Design and Development Summit
